Data Engineering Technical Lead

Job TitleData Engineering Technical LeadThe RoleThe Data Engineering Technical Lead will play a critical role in shaping and delivering Vanguard Europe's data and analytics capabilities. Working within the Chief Data & Analytics Office (CDAO), this role will lead the technical design, development, and evolution of data products that support business decision-making across Financial Advice Services, Marketing, Operations, Risk, and other key business functions.

Operating in a modern cloud-based environment leveraging Databricks, AWS, and Infrastructure as Code, the successful candidate will lead a team of data engineers while partnering closely with Product Managers, Data Analysts, Architects, and business stakeholders. The role combines deep technical expertise with strong leadership capabilities, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-quality data solutions are delivered that drive measurable business outcomes.

In this role you will Write ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) processes, designs database systems and, develops tools for real-time and offline analytic processingTroubleshoot software and processes for data consistency and integrity. Integrates complex and large scale data from a variety of sources for business partners to generate insight and make decisions.

Translate business specifications into design specifications and code. Responsible for writing complex programs, ad hoc queries, and reports. Ensures that all code is well structured, includes sufficient documentation, and is easy to maintain and reusePartner with internal clients to gain an expert understanding of business functions and informational needs. Works closely with other technical and data analytics experts across the business to implement data solutionsLead all phases of solution development.

Explains technical considerations at related meetings, including those with internal clients and less experienced team membersAssess data quality and tests code thoroughly for accuracy of intended purpose. Provides data analysis guidance and serves as a technical consultant for the clientEducate and develops junior data engineers on the team while applying quality control to their work.

Develops data engineering standards and contributes expertise to other data expert teams across VanguardTest and implement new software releases through regression testing. Identifies issues and engages with vendors to resolve and elevate software into productionExperience in data analytics, programming, database administration, or data management experienceProficient in spec-driven development using AI coding tools such as Claude Code or Codex.
