Reliability Engineer

The Role:

The Electronic Engineering department are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Reliability Engineer to join our team. The successful applicant will work primarily within the Electronics R&D team to address product reliability challenges and qualify materials and electronic components for high reliability applications.


Main Duties:

  • Track, review and investigate product and component reliability issues. Report on investigation findings and provide suggestions for improvement.
  • Work with engineering, production and quality assurance to assess internal and external reliability issues.
  • Carry out critical component reviews to identify obsolescence or lead-time risks
  • Implement appropriate electronic component qualification to address design or manufacturing requirements.
  • Maintain clear documentation in relation to component test and reliability issues to ensure risks are communicated and addressed
  • Develop a knowledge of Metrol's high reliability design and manufacturing techniques.
  • Maintain an understanding of electronic component and PCB manufacturing methods, failure mechanisms and analysis techniques in order to assess and extend operating lifetimes
  • Support PCB Manufacturing/Reliability Improvements through testing of electronics and materials, working with Metrol engineers and external suppliers.


Required Skills & Experience:

  • Degree qualification in Electronic Engineering or a related discipline
  • Previous experience in electronic design or test
  • Good verbal and written communication skills for technical reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with standard computer applications


Desirable Skills & Experience:

  • Knowledge of electronic component packaging and test
  • Knowledge of accelerated and life testing methods and analysis
  • Experience with high temperature electronics
  • Experience with component failure mechanisms and investigation
  • Experience of database development and usage
  • The ability to travel on an occasional basis
