Application Database Administrator – RDBMS

Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Application Database Administrator (RDBMS) with proven experience working within the Aerospace & Defence sector.

The successful candidate will be responsible for administering and maintaining relational database environments, ensuring databases remain secure, highly available, performant and reliable.

The role covers database installation and configuration, performance tuning, security and access management, backup and disaster recovery, data integrity, troubleshooting and capacity planning.

Key Responsibilities Database Installation & Configuration

• Install, configure and upgrade RDBMS platforms.
• Configure database storage and system resources.
• Support database environments across the application lifecycle.

Performance Tuning & Optimisation

• Monitor database performance and activity.
• Analyse and optimise slow SQL queries.
• Manage and optimise database indexes.
• Identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks.
• Allocate system resources to maintain optimal performance.

Security & Access Control

• Define and manage database user roles and permissions.
• Grant and revoke database access as required.
• Implement appropriate authentication and access controls.
• Support database encryption and security requirements.
• Ensure database environments comply with security standards.

Backup & Disaster Recovery

• Configure and manage regular database backups.
• Support full, differential and transaction-log backups where applicable.
• Develop and maintain database recovery procedures.
• Regularly test backup and recovery processes.

Data Integrity & Maintenance

• Maintain database constraints and relationships.
• Perform database health checks and routine maintenance.
• Identify and resolve data integrity issues.
• Carry out database housekeeping and cleanup activities.

Troubleshooting & Support

• Diagnose database operational issues.
• Resolve database connectivity and availability problems.
• Investigate production alerts and performance issues.
• Provide technical support for critical database incidents.

Capacity Planning

• Monitor database growth and resource utilisation.
• Forecast future storage, memory and processing requirements.
• Recommend infrastructure changes based on capacity trends.

Required Skills

• Strong hands-on Database Administration / RDBMS experience.
• Experience with one or more of:
• MySQL
• PostgreSQL
• Oracle
• SQL Server
• Strong database performance tuning and optimisation skills.
• SQL query optimisation experience.
• Database security and access control experience.
• Backup and disaster recovery experience.
• Database troubleshooting and production support experience.
• Data integrity and database maintenance experience.
• Capacity planning and database monitoring experience.
• Mandatory Aerospace & Defence industry experience.

Eligibility

• Must have relevant Aerospace & Defence industry experience.
• Ability to work remotely from within the UK.
