Platform Migration Consultant

Our client is looking for a Platform Migration Consultant to assess their current Oracle WebLogic 14c estate and define the best migration path for an application upgrade.

You will review the existing environment, identify delivery and technical risks, and recommend a clear target architecture, working across the development team and wider business stakeholders.

This role is focused on early-stage assessment, migration strategy, and risk reduction, with the potential to return for a follow-on six-month delivery contract.

Responsibilities

• Review the current Oracle WebLogic 14c environment, application landscape, and supporting documentation to establish the starting point for migration.
• Assess the existing architecture, deployment model, integrations, and operational dependencies to determine what must be retained, replaced, or redesigned.
• Identify technical, delivery, and operational risks that could affect a move away from WebLogic.
• Evaluate suitable target-state options for a modern Java architecture, including platforms such as JBoss and Spring-based solutions.
• Recommend the most appropriate migration approach based on application requirements, maintainability, delivery risk, and long-term fit.
• Produce clear, practical recommendations that set out the preferred option, rationale, key trade-offs, and likely implementation considerations.
• Advise the client and development team on sequencing, prerequisites, and decision points required before full migration begins.
• Highlight any gaps in the current environment, documentation, or technical readiness that could impact the next phase of work.
• Present findings and recommendations in a way that enables the business to make an informed decision on the future architecture and delivery plan.
• Provide advisory support that helps shape a lower-risk mobilisation for the potential follow-on migration contract.
