Role Overview: Platform Engineer
This is a critical role in the ongoing digital transformation of the business. Following a full migration to Azure and adoption of a DevOps/product-based model, the Platform Engineer will be responsible for enhancing, supporting, and optimising the organisation’s cloud infrastructure. The role will suit someone who enjoys enabling engineering teams to ship quickly and safely, who thinks in terms of automation and scale, and who is confident building robust, repeatable cloud solutions using modern infrastructure-as-code practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and support CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, aligned with industry best practices.
- Drive automation and build tools to improve developer experience and operational efficiency.
- Design and document scalable cloud solutions deployed in Azure.
- Build and maintain secure, testable infrastructure using Terraform and Infrastructure-as-Code principles.
- Collaborate closely with product, data, and engineering teams to deliver robust long-term solutions.
- Create monitoring, metrics, and alerting to measure performance and maintain uptime.
- Ensure efficient and cost-effective management of cloud resources and services.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance across Platform, Software, and Data Engineering teams.
- Troubleshoot root causes and implement repeatable solutions.
- Contribute to security, compliance, and reliability through automation and best practices.
Key Skills & Experience
- Proven experience supporting and scaling Azure environments.
- Strong background in CI/CD tooling (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
- Advanced scripting and automation skills in PowerShell, YAML, and Terraform.
- Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code using Terraform, ARM, or Ansible.
- Solid understanding of both Windows Server OS and Linux systems.
- Experience with configuration management tools (Ansible, PowerShell DSC).
- Comfortable building and managing monitoring and failover strategies.
- Awareness of security best practices and familiarity with static/dynamic security testing tools.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and propose clean, scalable solutions.
- Experience with Agile methodologies and collaborative cross-functional teams.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with business stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field—or equivalent experience.
- Certifications in Azure, DevOps, or related cloud technologies are a plus.
