Staff Full Stack Engineer (Kotlin Focus)
London (Hybrid) • 6-Month Contract
About the Role
Velocity Tech is partnering with one of the world’s largest insurance organisations, working closely with Lloyd’s of London, to hire a Staff Full Stack Engineer with strong Kotlin expertise.
This is a high-impact role within a complex, large-scale engineering environment, where you’ll play a key role in building and scaling backend systems. The position is heavily backend-focused, with Kotlin as a core technology, alongside Node.js and TypeScript. Frontend work (React) is secondary.
We’re looking for a polyglot engineer, but with deep Kotlin experience, who can provide technical leadership, mentor engineers, and help drive delivery across teams.
What You’ll Do
- Design and build scalable backend services with a strong focus on Kotlin
- Contribute to backend development using Node.js and TypeScript where required
- Support frontend development with React (secondary focus)
- Lead technical design and influence architectural decisions
- Mentor engineers and guide best practices across the team
- Work within a complex enterprise environment to deliver high-quality, reliable systems

What We’re Looking For
- Strong experience as a Senior/Staff Engineer with deep Kotlin expertise
- Proven track record building scalable backend systems in Kotlin
- Comfortable working across multiple languages (polyglot mindset)
- Experience in large-scale or enterprise environments
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
- Ability to navigate complexity and drive pragmatic engineering decisions
