Overview
We are hiring a Head of Operations to help professionalise, scale and stabilise the operations function within a fast-growing global payments business.
The payments business is performing strongly and is now ready to move into its next stage of maturity. The current leadership team has built momentum, but there is a need for a senior operational leader who can take ownership of day-to-day operational performance, improve processes, ensure customers are onboarded properly, and create a more structured operating environment.
This role will suit someone who has worked in payments, acquiring, PSPs or high-risk merchant operations and understands the realities of serving gaming, gambling and other complex global merchants.
Role Purpose
The Head of Operations will take responsibility for the operational side of the payments business, excluding sales and finance.
The successful candidate will work closely with the wider leadership team to reduce operational pressure on senior leaders, bring structure to the function, monitor day-to-day performance, and ensure the business can scale without relying on informal processes.
The business is still young, and processes are not yet fully mature. This role is about helping the organisation grow up operationally while maintaining the flexibility and commercial edge that has driven its success.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and manage the operational function across the payments business.
- Ensure customer onboarding, implementation and ongoing service delivery are managed effectively.
- Monitor operational performance and intervene quickly when issues arise.
- Create, improve and embed operational processes across the business.
- Ensure existing processes are followed consistently.
- Work closely with integration, customer service, product, compliance, commercial and partner teams.
- Oversee operational delivery for complex merchants and payment routes.
- Support customers and internal teams where payment flows, routing or settlement issues arise.
- Help build a more mature, scalable and well-ordered operations function.
- Work with teams across multiple locations, including India and Dubai.
- Support senior leadership in moving into a more strategic role focused on new markets, acquisitions and growth.
- Take ownership of the operational detail so senior leadership can focus on expansion.
Ideal Background
The ideal candidate will have worked in a similar payments environment and will understand high-risk, grey-market or complex merchant operations.
Relevant backgrounds may include:
- Payments operations.
- PSP operations.
- Acquiring operations.
- Merchant onboarding and implementation.
- High-risk or gaming payments.
- Director of Implementation / Head of Implementation roles with broader operational scope.
- Operational leadership within businesses serving gaming, gambling, adult or other complex verticals.
- Strong experience in payments, acquiring, PSPs or merchant services.
- Experience operating in high-risk, grey-market or complex merchant environments.
- Understanding of gaming / gambling payments would be highly advantageous.
- Strong operational leadership experience.
- Experience managing implementations, onboarding and ongoing service performance.
- Ability to create structure and process in a young, fast-growing business.
- Strong problem-solving capability when payment routes, integrations or customer issues arise.
- Comfortable working with global teams and partners.
- Able to operate without significant hand-holding.
- Strong stakeholder management across commercial, technical, customer service and finance teams.
- Willingness to travel where required.
Indicative salary:
- Base salary: approximately £100-£140k
