Desktop Engineer

Job Overview:

As a 2nd Line Desktop Support Technician, you will be a key member of the Desktop Support team, responsible for providing technical assistance and resolving incidents and service requests that require onsite support. Your role will help ensure the continuity of systems and services used by a Public Sector organisation, maintaining business as usual operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 2nd line support for IT incidents and service requests including in-person troubleshooting and on-site resolution
  • Unbox, unload and physically build desktop and laptop PCs to specification ensuring devices are fully functional and deployment-ready
  • Install and configure hardware components such as memory, drives, graphics cards and peripherals as part of new builds and upgrades
  • Deliver desktop support for hardware, software and network-related issues across the organisation
  • Investigate and resolve issues escalated from 1st line support aiming to minimise downtime and optimise system performance
  • Maintain IT infrastructure by contributing to secure network access, asset tracking and system availability
  • Participate in IT projects involving large-scale deployments, office moves, hardware refreshes and technical upgrades

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience unboxing, assembling and configuring PCs including peripheral setup and testing
  • Solid desktop support background with strong troubleshooting skills across a range of IT environments
  • Familiarity with Windows operating systems, Active Directory and endpoint security tools
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and a proactive detail-oriented work style
  • Clear communication skills with confidence providing technical assistance to users across all levels
