Backend Software Engineer
Backend Software Engineer - £560p/d (Inside of IR35) - Java | Contract | Manchester
Leading global digital travel platform now requires a Backend Software Engineer to join a major global travel platform and help build the technology connecting its Attractions business with third-party providers.
You'll develop and operate cloud-native services supporting partner integrations, product and availability data, reservations, webhooks and data transformation. This is a hands-on role covering the full software life cycle-from technical design and development through to deployment and production support.
Key responsibilities:
- Build and operate scalable Back End services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Develop partner integrations and data-ingestion capabilities.
- Design and integrate REST/HTTP APIs.
- Work with AWS, Kubernetes, Kafka and event-driven architectures.
- Design services for resilience, scalability, security and observability.
- Own solutions from initial requirements through to production.
- Diagnose production issues using logs, metrics, traces and dashboards.
- Contribute to technical designs, code reviews, testing and engineering improvements.
Key requirements:
- Strong Back End engineering experience using Java and Spring Boot.
- Practical experience building cloud-native services on AWS.
- Experience deploying and operating services using Kubernetes.
- Knowledge of Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
- Experience with APIs, microservices and third-party integrations.
- Good understanding of distributed systems, including retries, timeouts, idempotency and rate limiting.
- Experience with automated testing, CI/CD and production operations.
- Able to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
Experience within travel, marketplaces, E-commerce, data transformation or high-scale event-driven systems would be beneficial but is not essential.
Contract details:
- Contract running until the end of 2026.
- Rate: £560p/d (Inside of IR35)
- Manchester-based hybrid working- one/two day(s) per week in the office.
- No out-of-hours on-call requirement.
