Position Overview

Verne is seeking an experienced and driven Head of Compliance & Security to lead security governance and compliance across the group in alignment with operational objectives, legal obligations and industry standards. This position requires substantial experience and specialist expertise in information security law, governance frameworks, risk and compliance.

The Head of Compliance & Security is responsible for setting the Verne standard for compliance and security through the delivery of a comprehensive and robust integrated management system framework. This framework encompasses key industry sectors including Information Security, Quality, Health & Safety, and Environmental, with scope for further expansion driven by industry standards and stakeholder expectations.

Key Responsibilities

    • Establish and maintain the organisation's information security governance framework, ensuring alignment with ISO 27001, regulatory requirements (e.g. GDPR, NIS2), and business risk appetite.
    • Own and continuously enhance Verne's Integrated Management System (IMS), governing frameworks including but not limited to ISO 27001, 9001, 14001, and 45001, with accountability for expansion into additional standards as required.
    • Define and lead the group-wide security and compliance strategy, ensuring alignment with operational objectives, business risk appetite, legal obligations, and industry best practice.
    • Provide strategic oversight, ensuring compliance activities are embedded into business-as-usual operations and that accountability for compliance is owned at all levels of the organisation.
    • Ensure security by design is embedded across all new services, infrastructure, and change initiatives, in collaboration with development, and operational teams.
    • Monitor emerging threats, vulnerabilities, changes in regulations and industry standards, proactively adapting policies and controls to mitigate evolving risks and compliance with laws and regulations.
    • Maintain close working relationships with regulatory bodies, industry peers, and threat intelligence networks to remain informed and responsive to sector-specific risks.
    • Lead certification, surveillance, and internal audits; coordinate with external auditors and certification bodies.
    • Develop and maintain compliance documentation, including policies, procedures, risk registers, and controls.
    • Ensure company-wide compliance with legal, regulatory, and ISO standard requirements.
  • Support departmental leaders in fulfilling their compliance responsibilities, ensuring ownership of compliance at the operational level through strong governance frameworks and guidance.
    • Drive a strong culture of security, safety, and compliance awareness, delivering targeted training and engagement initiatives across all levels of the business.
    • Lead risk assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analyses, acting as the senior escalation point for information security and compliance related incidents.
    • Ensure all non-conformities and corrective actions are managed through a structured process, tracking through to resolution and embedding lessons learned.
    • Establish reporting mechanisms to inform Top Management on compliance performance, risks, audit outcomes, and continual improvement initiatives.
    • Engage effectively with external stakeholders, including regulators, auditors, customers, and partners, to maintain trust, transparency, and a strong compliance reputation for Verne
