Senior Java Engineer (Contract)

Location: Hybrid Belfast (2 days a week, no exceptions)

Duration: 12 months

Rate: up to £500 a day

ViVA Tech Talent are supporting a high-growth fintech platform scaling a core, real-time trading product. They’re looking for a Senior Java Engineer to build and optimise low-latency, high-throughput systems in a cloud-native environment.

The role

• Build and scale Java-based backend services
• Develop containerised microservices (Kubernetes, Docker)
• Work on event-driven systems (Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pub/Sub)
• Design REST / gRPC APIs
• Optimise performance, scalability, and reliability in production
• Contribute to distributed system architecture

Requirements

• 5+ years backend engineering experience
• Strong Java + distributed systems expertise
• Proven experience with microservices architecture
• Hands-on with Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud (GCP preferred)
• Experience with messaging systems and real-time processing
• Strong PostgreSQL (or similar) knowledge
• Solid understanding of API design, security, and CI/CD

Nice to have

• Fintech / trading / real-time financial systems experience
