About the Role
The Music Annotator will support AI training initiatives by evaluating and describing musical audio with a high level of precision and consistency. The role involves performing structured listening tasks and creating detailed written descriptions of music tracks, capturing aspects such as composition, instrumentation, sonic textures, and overall mood. Working remotely, the analyst will annotate audio at scale while maintaining strict quality and metadata standards required for machine learning datasets. This position requires strong listening skills, the ability to articulate musical elements clearly in writing, and the discipline to work efficiently within defined productivity targets. The role also involves identifying ambiguities or edge cases in audio data and providing feedback that helps refine annotation guidelines and improve model training quality.
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum 2+ years of experience in roles such as audio annotation, music journalism, audio quality analysis, or related analytical work
- Strong listening ability with a clear understanding of musical structure, instrumentation, sound design, and production elements across diverse genres
- Ability to write clear, detailed, and structured descriptions of music, capturing sonic characteristics and emotional tone
- Experience working with annotation platforms, spreadsheets, or content management systems for data labeling or evaluation tasks
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly when handling metadata, tagging, and documentation
- Capability to maintain consistent productivity while reviewing audio tracks and producing long-form written outputs
- Strong written communication skills with the ability to convert listening impressions into precise, well-structured narrative descriptions
- Comfortable working in a fully remote environment with reliable equipment and headphones suitable for extended listening sessions
- Ability to identify and report anomalies, unclear audio cues, or guideline gaps during the annotation process
Preferred Qualifications
- Academic or professional background in music theory, ethnomusicology, or audio engineering
- Exposure to AI, machine learning datasets, generative audio systems, or recommendation engines
- Basic familiarity with data tools such as SQL, Python, or automation scripts for reporting or quality checks
- Understanding of content sensitivity and data governance practices in global annotation programs
