A hands-on ClickHouse Engineer is required for a leading Energy Trading House undertaking a major transformation of its data platform migrating from traditional SQL-based systems to ClickHouse . This client operates across physical and financial energy markets, with a strong focus on analytics, optimisation, and real-time data processing to support trading and risk decisions.

This role will focus on designing, building, and optimising the new ClickHouse data architecture , ensuring scalability, performance, and integration with existing trading systems. Youll play a key role in refactoring existing SQL pipelines, enhancing data models, and implementing best practices for high-volume, low-latency data operations. This system will be built in C# .NET, but the real focus of the role is on experience with non-relational databases - ideally clickhouse. They accept alternative experience with C#, Python or similar languages. If not C#, Python is preffered.

The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on ClickHouse experience , and some experience in either C#/.NET/Python.

Day rate: Up to 800/day Inside IR35

Contract: 6 months rolling (long-term migration programme)

Location: Hybrid 23 days office, London

NO ENERGY TRADING EXPERIENCE REQURED - great opportunity for someone to get into the industry if you have the right tech.

ClickHouse is the silver bullet here - other acceptable alternatives are SingleStore, Rockset, TimescaleDB

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and implement scalable data solutions within ClickHouse .
• Migrate existing SQL data models, ETL pipelines, and reporting layers to ClickHouse.
• Optimise query performance, data ingestion, and storage for high-frequency trading data.
• Collaborate with traders, quants, and data analysts to ensure alignment with business requirements.
• Integrate ClickHouse with surrounding systems, including trading, risk, and analytics platforms.
• Establish data quality controls, monitoring, and performance tuning best practices.
• Support the ongoing evolution of the data architecture and tooling ecosystem.

Experience Required:

• 5+ years experience as a C# Engineer or ClickHouse Developer in trading or financial services.
• Expert-level SQL development and optimisation skills.
• Hands-on experience with ClickHouse (architecture, performance tuning, schema design).
• Experience with data migration projects and refactoring legacy data systems.
• Familiarity with ETL tools , Python , and data integration frameworks .
• Strong understanding of energy trading or market data domains preferred.
• Proven ability to deliver in Agile , fast-paced environments.
