Data Business Analyst | Commodities & Energy Trading - Front office | London, Hybrid | up to £120k + Bonus, Benefits
Data Business Analyst needed for a leading Commodities & Energy trading firm, active in both the derivatives and physicals space, trading the likes of energy, precious metals, agriculture. Is looking to add to their Data / Business Analyst team, by hiring a Senior Data Business Analyst, with experience in a COmmodities or Energy Trading business or markets & some understanding of market and fundamental data.
The Data Business Analyst will join the Data Centre of Excellence, encompassing Data Analysis, Data Architecture, Data Intelligence and Machine Learning experts. This Data team helps the Energy traders make use of their data to help make investment and risk decisions.
This is a brand new team, being created due to the expansion of the Gas, LNG & Power desks, acting as the first point of contact to the Front Office LNG desk where you will be responsible for functional analysis, governance, reporting and analytics.
Hands-on delivery experience working with data, analysis and BI tools e.g. SQL, PowerQuery, Excel VBA, Python (e.g. Pandas, PySpark), DataBricks, Power BI, Tableau etc.
The salary on offer for this Data Business Analyst Role is up to £120,000 + Bonus and Benefits package.
The company works a hybrid model, with 3 days per week in the office, close to major tube stations, including Liverpool Street.
As a Data BA you will:
- Help users find and use data - understanding market and fundamental data feeding forecasting & pre trade analytics
- Supporting users looking for data and helping them check it meets their needs
- Analysing data with tools, such as DataBricks, SQL, Python, Powerquery and Excel
- Helping business owners govern and catalogue their data
- Creating and maintaining a central catalogue under the steer of Data Owners in the business
- Chairing meetings to review the catalogue, answer questions, identify data quality issues and manage continuous improvements
- Delivering new data and analytics solutions with the Data Engineering Team
- Working with the users to understand and prioritise their needs for new data or analytics
- Performing hands-on system or data analysis to define functional and system requirements
Hands-on delivery experience working with data, analysis and BI tools e.g. SQL, PowerQuery, Excel VBA, Python (e.g. Pandas, PySpark), DataBricks, Power BI, Tableau etc.
Essential Skills for the Data Business Analyst:
- Senior IT Business Analyst / Data Analyst with experience of a Commodities Trading business, and a strong understanding of market and fundamental data
- Understanding of data engineering and data modelling concepts and approaches
- Hands-on delivery experience working with data, analysis and BI tools e.g. SQL, Power Query, Excel VBA, Python (e.g. Pandas, PySpark), Databricks, Power BI, Tableau etc
- IT delivery management experience with a commercial focus using Kanban, Scrum or other agile approaches
