What this role is all about: Join Vitality as a Principal Test Engineer and lead the technical direction of our automation landscape. From designing robust C# and Java frameworks to championing best-in-class practices across teams, your work will directly influence delivery speed, quality, and engineering culture. Key Actions
  • Implement the software test life cycle: Own and refine the full software test lifecycle, from analysis and design through execution and reporting. You’ll ensure quality is built in from the start, driving efficient, automation-led approaches that scale across teams.
  • Recognised technical authority: Be the go-to technical expert for advanced automation and modern testing practices. You’ll provide direction, unblock teams, and set the bar for engineering excellence.
  • Adhere to testing standards: Champion Vitality’s Group test strategy, embedding modern engineering standards and ensuring teams consistently deliver high-quality, reliable solutions.
  • Subject matter expert in standards: Act as the SME for testing standards across Vitality. You’ll lead the adoption of best-in-class approaches, ensuring consistency, maintainability, and continuous improvement.
  • Engage stakeholders: Collaborate with a wide network of stakeholders including architects, developers, UX designers, product owners, analysts, and delivery leads to shape solutions. You will understand requirements, and ensure testing is tightly aligned to business outcomes.
  • Cross-team integration: Work closely with senior leadership, internal teams, and third-party partners to interpret requirements, align on test strategy, and ensure seamless integration across complex journeys and platforms.
  • Build and transfer knowledge: Invest in your own technical development while coaching and mentoring engineers. You’ll help shape a high-performing automation community with strong engineering discipline.
  • Specialist expertise: Demonstrate deep expertise in two testing specialisms (including automation) while continuing to develop capability in a third, strengthening both breadth and depth across the engineering landscape.
  • Collaborate within and across teams: Partner effectively with cross-functional teams, sharing knowledge and aligning on best practices to deliver reliable, scalable solutions at pace. 
What do you need to thrive?
  • 7+ Years of hands-on Automation Testing experience with extensive knowledge of C#, Java & Selenium.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of mentoring Engineers in test automation projects
  • Strong hands-on experience in API test automation, including scenario design, data setup, and validation. 
  • Deep understanding of automation framework design and long-term maintainability.
  • Proven ability to lead test teams and mentor junior engineers.
  • Experience in defining test strategies and driving quality initiatives across teams.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders.
