Senior Infrastructure Engineer
Senior Infrastructure Engineer | London (4 days onsite) | Up to £90K base + bonus
We are seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer to join a hands-on, collaborative IT team supporting a highly on-premises environment with limited cloud reliance. This is a practical role for someone who enjoys getting close to the technology, solving complex infrastructure issues, and working in environments where reliability, resilience, and adaptability matter.
The role is based in London, with 4 days onsite per week and quarterly international travel. Travel may involve week-long site visits, and occasionally longer trips depending on project complexity and site conditions.
This is not a cloud-first or highly abstracted environment. The infrastructure is heavily on-prem due to bandwidth, latency, and site constraints, so candidates must be comfortable operating in environments where issues cannot always be resolved remotely and may require hands-on involvement, structured planning, and close collaboration with local teams.
Role overview
As Senior Infrastructure Engineer, you will act as an escalation point for complex technical issues, lead infrastructure projects, help define global standards, and support junior engineers across the UK and internationally.
You will work across a broad range of infrastructure technologies, with a strong focus on VMware and SCCM, alongside core Microsoft, networking, storage, backup, and server infrastructure.
Key responsibilities
- Act as a senior escalation point for infrastructure-related incidents and service issues.
- Design, build, maintain, and support core on-prem infrastructure across multiple sites.
- Lead infrastructure projects, including upgrades, migrations, deployments, and site improvements.
- Manage and support VMware vSphere / vCenter / ESXi, with deep hands-on experience required.
- Administer SCCM, including packaging, deployment, maintenance, driver management, and supporting multiple laptop models across the estate.
- Support and improve server, storage, backup, and disaster recovery environments.
- Work across core Microsoft services including Active Directory, GPO, DNS, DHCP, and general Windows server support.
- Provide networking support across areas such as DNS, DHCP, VLANs, routing basics, and general infrastructure connectivity.
- Support Azure AD / O365 where relevant, but this is not a cloud-led role.
- Work closely with local teams in Gabon, building strong relationships and supporting engineers through mentoring and knowledge sharing.
- Ensure standards, best practices, and documentation are maintained across environments.
- Collaborate with the wider IT team to keep infrastructure stable, secure, and well structured.
What we are looking for
- Strong, hands-on VMware experience
- Solid SCCM experience, ideally with recent practical use
- Broad infrastructure background across servers, storage, networking, and Microsoft systems
- Good understanding of core networking concepts such as DNS and DHCP
- A practical, generalist mindset
- Confidence working in a highly on-prem environment
This is an excellent opportunity for a strong infrastructure engineer who wants a role with real technical depth, meaningful ownership, and a heavily on-prem focus.
