Founding Engineer | InsurTech

Build the systems an insurance company actually runs on

We’re working with an early-stage InsurTech startup redefining how insurance products are built, priced, and operated.

This is a true founding engineer role not maintenance, not tickets, not “inherit a legacy codebase and survive.” You’ll be building core systems from day one and shaping both the product and the technical direction of the company.

How we work

This is a high collaboration, in office role 4–5 days per week with the founding team.

If you enjoy whiteboards, fast decisions, and building shoulder-to-shoulder early on, you’ll feel at home here.

What you’ll be building

• Underwriting & pricing engines

• Internal tooling used by ops, claims, and product teams

• Scalable, API-first backend services

• Data-driven workflows that touch real money and real risk

What you’ll do

• Own major technical decisions from zero → one → scale

• Work directly with the founders on product and architecture

• Ship fast, iterate faster, and improve things as you learn

• Build for correctness, security, and scale (this is insurance)

What we’re looking for

• Strong backend or full-stack engineer (product-minded)

• Comfortable with ambiguity and incomplete requirements

• Experience building complex systems

• Startup mindset: ownership > job titles

Nice to have (not required)

• InsurTech / FinTech / regulated environment experience

• Experience with underwriting, pricing, or workflow engines

• Cloud-native experience (AWS/GCP/Azure)

Tech

Node.js or Python (FastAPI / Django)

Frontend - React and Typescript
