Job Title: Compute Engineer (Contract - Inside IR35)

Location: Hybrid, London 3 days per week
Rate: £460 per day (Inside IR35)
Start Date: March 2026
Duration: Initial 6 months (with strong likelihood to extend through the remainder of the year and into next year)

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Compute Engineer with strong financial services experience to support a major infrastructure migration programme. This role will focus on migrating workloads from an existing compute environment that is being decommissioned (target date: 2028) into a new platform, ensuring production stability, change control, and automation best practices throughout.

The ideal candidate will have 10+ years' experience working in enterprise compute environments, be comfortable operating in regulated financial institutions, and have a proven background in production change management, automation, and large-scale migrations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and optimise enterprise compute environments to support mission-critical financial applications

  • Lead and execute the migration of workloads from an existing platform into a new compute environment, ensuring minimal disruption to production services

  • Operate within strict change management and production control frameworks typical of financial institutions

  • Automate repeatable tasks and processes using Scripting and tooling to improve reliability and efficiency

  • Perform performance tuning, capacity planning, and resource optimisation across compute platforms

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex compute-related incidents, ensuring high availability and uptime

  • Collaborate closely with network, storage, security, and application teams across the UK and US

  • Ensure security controls and compliance standards are Embedded within compute designs

  • Support vendor interactions and ensure adherence to vendor best practices and standards

  • Provide technical input and guidance to internal teams where required

Required Skills & Experience

  • 10+ years' hands-on experience as a Compute Engineer in large enterprise environments

  • Strong experience working within financial services or regulated institutions

  • Proven experience with production environments and formal change management processes

  • Experience delivering compute migrations and platform transitions

  • Strong automation mindset and hands-on Scripting experience
