New Contract Opportunity – Lead Platform Engineer (AWS Migration) - £600pd Inside IR35

WRK digital are delighted to be shortlisting for a contract AWS to drive the migration of a AI start-up core platform from Azure to AWS.
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role where you'll design the future foundation of their platform, establish modern CI/CD practices, and lead a business‐critical cloud migration.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading the end-to-end migration of the client's web application, API, and database from Azure to AWS.
- Designing and building AWS infrastructure using Terraform, covering compute, networking, security, Postgres, and application services.
- Implementing Bitbucket-based CI pipelines to build, test, and validate application code automatically.
- Creating CD pipelines with ephemeral environments that spin up dynamically on pull requests for isolated testing.
- Establishing robust production deployment workflows with approval gates and rollback mechanisms.
- Planning and executing the migration of the Azure-hosted database to AWS RDS Postgres, ensuring minimal downtime.
- Setting up monitoring, logging, and alerting to provide full visibility across the new AWS environment.
- Applying AWS Well‐Architected principles to ensure the platform is secure, reliable, and cost‐efficient from day one.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Terraform: Strong infrastructure‐as‐code expertise across AWS (compute, networking, databases, IAM).
- AWS Core Services: Hands-on experience with ECS/Fargate or EC2, RDS Postgres, VPC, ALB, Route 53, CloudWatch.
- CI/CD: Proven ability to build sophisticated CI/CD workflows including ephemeral environments and approval stages (Bitbucket Pipelines or similar).
- Database Migration: Experience migrating to AWS RDS Postgres, including planning, dry‐runs, and cutovers with minimal disruption.
- Ephemeral Environments: Understanding of on-demand environment provisioning for PR-based automated testing.
- Azure to AWS Migration: Familiarity with Azure equivalents (VMs, Azure SQL/Postgres) and their AWS counterparts.
- Node.js & Postgres: Knowledge of hosting Node.js applications and Postgres databases in production environments.
