A well-funded London consumer platform in the on-demand retail space is investing heavily in its permanent mobile capability. The app sits at the centre of the entire customer journey, from ordering and real-time inventory through to fulfilment and operational tooling.
After a rapid growth phase, the focus is now sustainable scale: stronger engineering standards, better ownership and long-term architectural foundations.
The opportunity
They are hiring an Engineering Manager alongside two Senior React Native Engineers to properly stabilise and scale the mobile function. In order to hire the Senior React Native Engineers they would like to hire the Engineering Manager first so you can be part of that process.
You will:
- Transition the mobile team away from contractor dependency to a high-ownership in-house model
- Hire, mentor and develop React Native engineers
- Raise engineering standards across testing, architecture and delivery
- Partner closely with product and design on roadmap and prioritisation
- Improve technical decision-making and clarity of trade-offs
- Build scalable mobile foundations for a high-traffic consumer app
This is a hands-on, delivery-focused leadership role. Mobile performance directly impacts revenue and operational efficiency, so quality and pace both matter.

- Strong production experience with React Native
- Experience shipping and maintaining consumer-facing apps at scale
- Clear ownership mindset with the ability to explain technical trade-offs
- Comfortable operating in fast-moving, product-led environments
- Experience improving engineering standards and delivery processes

Interview process
- 30-minute discussion with Director of Engineering
- 45-minute technical deep dive (mobile architecture & delivery approach)
- 2-hour final in-office interview loop
