We're supporting a large international technology and manufacturing business that is looking to appoint an experienced German-speaking Lead Accountant on a 9–12 month interim contract.

This role has specific responsibility for the business's German entities, so we're looking for someone who is fluent in German and English and has strong, practical knowledge of German GAAP / HGB. These are essential requirements for the position.

You'll take ownership across German statutory accounting, tax, audit and financial reporting, acting as a key link between the German operations and the wider international finance function.

The Role

Reporting into the senior finance team, you'll have responsibility for ensuring the German entities remain compliant with HGB, German statutory reporting and local tax requirements.

You'll oversee the preparation and accuracy of local financial statements, manage the bridge between US GAAP and German GAAP, coordinate external audits and ensure statutory and tax filings are delivered accurately and on time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of accounting and statutory reporting for the German entities in accordance with HGB / German GAAP
  • Ensure German financial statements, statutory filings and GL entries are accurate, complete and delivered to deadline
  • Prepare and review detailed US GAAP to German GAAP bridge reconciliations
  • Act as the primary finance contact for German external audits, coordinating queries through to resolution
  • Oversee local tax requirements including VAT, corporation tax, Intrastat, EC Sales and import/export reporting
  • Manage and review the output of outsourced accounting and professional service providers
  • Maintain strong financial controls and ensure compliance with group policies and SOX requirements
  • Support transfer pricing, wider tax projects and changes affecting the German accounting environment
  • Drive improvements across accounting processes, systems, controls and reporting

What We're Looking For

  • Fluent German and English – written and spoken – is essential
  • Strong working knowledge of German GAAP / HGB is essential
  • Qualified accountant – ACA / ACCA / CIMA
  • Strong experience across German statutory accounting, financial reporting and tax
  • Comfortable reconciling between US GAAP and German GAAP
  • Experience managing external auditors and outsourced service providers
  • International or multinational experience; exposure to a US-headquartered group would be particularly useful
  • Good understanding of internal controls and SOX, alongside strong Excel skills
  • SAP experience is highly desirable, with manufacturing or technology experience advantageous

Why Join?

This is a great longer-term interim assignment for someone with genuine German accounting expertise. You'll have significant ownership of the German entities, work with senior stakeholders internationally and combine technical accounting with audit, tax, controls and process improvement.

The role is predominantly remote, with travel to the Brighton area approximately once per month.
