Role: Head of Data (AI & Data Platform)

Salary: £120,000 – £150,000 basic

Wedo has partnered with a high-growth, product-led Tech 4 Good SaaS business. The platform positively impacts hundreds of millions of lives each year. They’re at in interesting inflection point where they’ve built a platform used at significant scale, supporting millions of real-world interactions, and are now entering the next phase of growth which is moving toward an AI-native product.
The data exists. The opportunity is clear.
Now they need someone to turn that into a genuine competitive advantage so they can gain market share.
The team:
You’ll be stepping into a function currently supported by a team of 4 Analytics Engineers, working across data, reporting and business insight.
You’ll operate as the most senior data leader, partnering closely with Engineering, Product and senior leadership to define how data and AI shape the product moving forward.
Initial focus will be on stabilising and structuring the function, before building out a longer-term team across data engineering, analytics and data science.
Current environment:
Stack: Snowflake, dbt, Looker, Fivetran
The foundations are modern, but the challenges are around:
- Ownership and structure
- Reporting consistency and trust
- Reactive analytics workload
- Limited self-serve capability
- No clearly defined long-term roadmap
- Early-stage AI ambition not yet operationalised
How they define the role:
This isn’t a traditional Head of BI or reporting-led role. I
They’re looking for someone who can sit across:
- Data platform (foundations, pipelines, governance)
- Data science / AI (production-grade ML, not experimentation)
- Product (embedding data into user workflows)
Your experience:
- Experience leading data functions or operating at Head/Lead level in a product-led environment
- Strong background across either:
- Data platform / engineering or
- Data science / ML (with production experience)
- Proven experience building or scaling modern data platforms
- Experience owning or contributing to end-to-end ML lifecycle (problem → deployment → monitoring)
- Comfortable working with messy, multi-source, real-world data
- Strong commercial awareness - able to prioritise based on business value
- Experience working closely with Product and Engineering on complex systems
- Able to operate at both strategic and hands-on levels
What you’ll be doing:
0–6 months:
- Take ownership of the data function
- Improve trust in reporting and consistency of metrics
- Reduce reactive reporting demand
- Assess team and define future structure
- Introduce prioritisation and operating model
6–12 months:
- Evolve customer and internal analytics capability
- Improve self-serve data access
- Strengthen platform foundations (pipelines, governance, reliability)
- Begin hiring and scaling the team
12 months+:
- Deliver AI-enabled product capability
- Productionise ML into real workflows
- Build data as a competitive advantage across the business

3rd Stage: Leadership Deep Dive (impact-focused)
4th Stage: Strategy Presentation (role-specific brief)
