Infrastructure Engineer

Job Title: Infrastructure Engineer
Salary: £51,000 to £55,000 + Benefits
Location: London, Pimlico (Hybrid, 2 days per week in the office, with some travel across London)
Work Type: 12-month Fixed Term Contract (Potential to go permanent)

Role:
Are you an Infrastructure Engineer who enjoys getting stuck into problems, challenging the way things are done and actually having a say in how technology is built?

We're working with a purpose-driven organisation that's going through a major digital transformation, and they're looking for an Infrastructure Engineer to help shape what their technology environment looks like moving forward.

This isn't a role where you'll simply be keeping the lights on or working through an endless list of tickets.

The organisation has a large, multi-site environment, with plenty of opportunity to improve, modernise and redesign its infrastructure. From Microsoft technologies and endpoint management through to networking, security and cloud, there's a lot happening and even more planned.

You'll work closely with the Infrastructure & Cyber Security Lead, getting involved in technical discussions, bouncing ideas around and helping build solutions that make a genuine difference.

If you're someone who likes understanding why something works the way it does, rather than just accepting that it does, this could be right up your street.

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with the Infrastructure & Cyber Security Lead to improve and modernise the existing infrastructure.
  • Support the development and implementation of Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 and Azure.
  • Review and improve networking, Wi-Fi and connectivity across multiple locations.
  • Help identify infrastructure issues, understand the root causes and design practical solutions.
  • Support Identity & Access Management projects, including user lifecycle management.
  • Improve infrastructure documentation, standards and processes.
  • Get involved in infrastructure discovery, understanding existing environments and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Work alongside third-party suppliers and MSPs to deliver infrastructure projects.
  • Support cyber security improvements, ensuring solutions are secure, resilient and properly considered.
  • Test and pilot new solutions before supporting wider rollouts.
  • Help remove technical blockers that are holding up wider transformation projects.
Required Skills:
We're not looking for someone who knows absolutely everything. We're looking for someone with a solid technical foundation, a broad understanding of infrastructure and, most importantly, the right mindset.

Ideally, you'll bring:
  • Experience working in a Microsoft infrastructure environment.
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Intune, Entra ID, Microsoft 365 and Azure.
  • An understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, VLANs, IP addressing and Wi-Fi.
  • Exposure to infrastructure and cyber security, including Microsoft Defender.
  • Experience troubleshooting and improving infrastructure rather than purely maintaining it.
  • An understanding of PowerShell scripting and automation.
  • Experience working across multiple technologies and solving unfamiliar technical problems.
  • Strong communication skills and the confidence to engage with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A proactive approach to learning, investigating and understanding new technologies.
Just as importantly, we want someone who thinks before they act.

Someone who asks questions, considers the risks and understands the wider impact of a technical decision.

You don't need to have worked with every tool under the sun. If you've got the fundamentals, the curiosity to learn and the confidence to work things out, we'd love to hear from you.

Why should I apply?
Because you'll actually get the opportunity to make a difference.

If you've ever worked somewhere where you've spotted problems, had ideas for improvements or wanted to get involved in bigger projects but haven't been given the opportunity, this could be exactly what you're looking for.

You'll be joining an organisation that's investing in its technology and has a genuine appetite to improve how things are done.

There's a real opportunity to take ownership, contribute to infrastructure design and help establish the standards that will shape the environment for years to come.

You'll also be working closely with a manager who values collaboration, curiosity and willingness to learn over simply having the longest list of certifications.
And alongside the technical opportunity, you'll be working for an organisation where the technology you build and improve supports a genuinely meaningful cause.

The benefits include:
  • 7% employer pension contribution
  • 26 days' annual leave, including Christmas closure, plus bank holidays
  • Your birthday off
  • Hybrid working, with 2 days per week in the office
  • Wellbeing app, shopping discounts and team events
  • Potential opportunity for the contract to become permanent
Interested?
If you're an Infrastructure Engineer who wants more ownership, more variety and the opportunity to help shape an evolving technology environment, I'd love to hear from you.
