Whitehall resources are looking for an Automation Engineer – OpenShift. This role is hybrid working with 3 days per week onsite in Sheffield, and the remainder remote working, for an initial 3-6 month contract.

Job Description:

The Automation Engineer will design and maintain automation solutions to streamline OpenShift cluster provisioning, configuration, and migration activities. This role focuses on developing Ansible playbooks, integrating automation into CI/CD pipelines, and collaborating with infrastructure and build teams to ensure smooth deployments and migrations. The engineer will also troubleshoot automation failures and continuously enhance automation frameworks for reliability and scalability.

  • Key Responsibilities: Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks to automate migration and deployment tasks.
  • Automate OpenShift cluster provisioning, configuration, and scaling processes.
  • Integrate automation workflows into CI/CD pipelines for consistent and efficient deployments.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and build teams to support migration and operational readiness.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve automation failures, ensuring high availability and performance.
  • Maintain clear documentation and provide guidance to teams on automation best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with security, governance, and regulatory standards in all automation activities.
  • Continuously improve automation frameworks by adopting emerging technologies and best practices.

  • Required Skills & Experience: Strong experience in automation engineering for container platforms and infrastructure.
  • Hands-on expertise with OpenShift and Kubernetes environments.
  • Proficiency in Ansible automation and scripting languages (Python, Bash).
  • Basic understanding of API integration for automation workflows.
  • Familiarity with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation).
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Solid understanding of Linux systems, networking, and security principles.
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
