Role Description:

The role of the Data Centre Technical Analyst is a pivotal position dedicated to safeguarding the operational availability and reliability of the UK's Critical National Infrastructure (CNI) Data Centres.

This role entails providing technical support services for the operation of five UK Data Centres, ensuring their safe, efficient, and compliant functioning. Close collaboration with suppliers, internal teams, and other stakeholders is essential to manage capacity, security, incidents, and audits effectively.

Job Overview and Purpose:

The primary objective of the Data Centre Technical Analyst is to deliver comprehensive technical support to all parties involved in running the UK Data Centre estate.

Key responsibilities include liaising with suppliers and ensuring that all works comply with established operational processes.

The analyst manages data centre capacity, including airflow and power analysis, identifies and implements efficiency improvements, oversees audit compliance (including IT Asset Audits), manages physical security and access control, and supports incident management activities.

The role also encompasses process review and improvement and providing technical expertise to all parties operating within the data centre estate. Out-of-hours work and participation in an on-call incident management rota may be required.

Essential:

  • Must have a valid current SC Clearance.
  • Must have own vehicle and be able to travel to 5 locations at short notice.
  • Minimum 12 months' experience working within a data centre environment.
  • Background in installing and de-installing IT equipment in data centres.
  • Knowledge and experience with the ITIL framework.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems supporting data centres, such as generators, UPS, and cooling systems.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the data centre estate to protect housed services.
  • Conducting regular IT asset audits to uphold data accuracy and compliance.
  • Maintaining accuracy in the Nlyte or equivalent DCIM tool to monitor capacity limits.
  • Managing changes and risks through the Change Control Process.
  • Raising change or incident tickets as necessary.
  • Providing incident management support within defined Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Representing the data centre estate in CABs, workshops, and multidisciplinary events.
  • Validating technical designs to ensure safe housing and supportability.
  • Delivering data centre inductions and maintaining access records to meet safety requirements.
  • Preparing for and completing all required audits.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • The analyst must draw upon experience and technical acumen to guide and support all stakeholders interfacing with the Data Centres.
  • A strong grasp of both IT infrastructure (compute, storage, network) and facilities management (power, cooling, building management) is essential.
  • Leadership skills and the ability to build relationships are crucial for success in this role.

Desirable:

  • Certification as a Data Centre Technician or Management Professional, or equivalent.
  • Experience with Nlyte or other DCIM tools, which are primary asset and capacity management tools.
  • ITIL Foundation qualification.
  • Networking skills.
