Senior Infrastructure Engineer
About the Role
We are looking for a highly skilled Engineer with expertise in PowerShell coding, IaC, Microsoft Windows System Administration/troubleshooting, and Incident Management to help build, operate and support high-performance infrastructure systems for an award-winning London Hedge Fund. This role sits at the intersection of platform engineering, system administration and technical support.
Responsibilities
- Ensuring that the IT needs of our user bases are always met, and that their experience is second to none.
- Serve as a point of ownership for all computing-related issues escalated from our front-line teams until resolution. Improve the compute offering by identifying, engineering and deploying solutions.
- Automate everything mindset: code PowerShell scripts (code from scratch) to eliminate toil and fix issues at the source. Leverage IaC to further automate and standardise resources and deployments.
- Assist in the transition from a reactive to pro-active support model for the user-facing platforms.
- Work with vendors to assess the quality of their products and services and identify areas for improvement.
- Continuously assess and improve existing systems, designing scalable, secure solutions that stand the test of time.
- Provide clear and concise documentation to aid knowledge-sharing amongst other teams.
- Provide support and mentorship to junior members of the team when required, including managing the helpdesk queue, managing physical inventory and supporting end-users with hardware/software issues when required.
- Analyse events, handle incidents effectively and influence decisions to improve the reliability and speed of the response.
- Build strong relationships with business users and other technology teams.
Skills & Experience
- System Administration and troubleshooting: Windows Server expertise. Deep knowledge of administration, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, DHCP, and file services. Advanced troubleshooting skills across complex, multi-site environments.
- Automation & IaC: Demonstrable experience coding PowerShell scripts (from scratch) and Infrastructure as Code, i.e., Puppet, Ansible, Terraform, Chef
- Technical Support and Incident Management: Extensive experience supporting Windows operating systems, networks and applications. Windows Server tooling, i.e. Group Policy, Active Directory, File Sharing, DNS, DHCP
- Communication: Experience working directly with and supporting senior and demanding business stakeholders and users. Building relationships and managing/owning small business critical projects on behalf of the firm. Successfully coordinating with other tech teams if required. Fluent / Native English language skills are required.
- We anticipate that this role will require 10-15 years of commercial experience in high-performance and complex technology-driven cultures.
