About the Role

This Engineering Lead (EL1) will shape the technical foundation that empowers Wise employees across the world. You will own the end‐to‐end digital employee experience, from attraction through off‐boarding, and lead a globally distributed team of engineers in London, Singapore, Austin, and other hubs.

You will manage a product‐mindset, high‐performing team that delivers internal tools and services geared toward employee satisfaction and tool adoption.

Technical & Product Ownership
  • Own the technical roadmap, addressing technical debt, reliability, security and scalability.
  • Transition the team from maintaining SaaS configurations to building end‐to‐end employee journeys with full engineering rigor.
  • Maintain product quality and advocate a high standard for internal customer experience.
  • Contribute to day‐to‐day execution, managing incident resolution and support SLAs.
  • Implement engineering rituals: a "Think, Build, Fix" framework, Jira Product Discovery for ideation, and bi‐weekly agile sprint cadences.
Leadership & People Management
  • Lead and coach a global team of engineers (IC1 – IC3), driving performance, growth and well‐being.
  • Cultivate an egoless culture of ownership, inclusivity and open feedback.
  • Participate in hiring, interview panel and onboarding of new hires.
  • Balance team composition to meet short‐term delivery and long‐term strategy.
What do you need?
  • Engineering leadership experience with coaching, performance reviews and high‐performing culture building.
  • Domain expertise in HR‐tech or employee experience platforms (recruitment, onboarding, HRIS).
  • Strong engineering foundation and experience delivering technical roadmaps and architectural decisions (APIs, data mapping, automated workflows).
  • Excellent communication and collaboration across Product, Design and other functions.
  • Structured execution skill – bring order to complex environments and align with platform engineering practices.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in a fast‐paced, cross‐functional, globally distributed team.
  • Strong grasp of agile development methodologies.
  • Background in transforming IT support/service processes into automated self‐service platforms.
