Information Systems Developer

Job summary

Wye Valley NHS Trust is seeking an enthusiastic and highly skilled Information Systems Developer to support and enhance the Trust's digital and information systems.

The post holder will be a self-motivated and proactive individual with strong organisational and time-management skills, alongside excellent technical expertise and communication abilities. You will play a key role within the department, delivering varied and challenging work in a complex and dynamic healthcare environment.

This role is central to promoting best practice in the development, maintenance, and optimisation of information systems across the Trust. The Information Systems Developer will work closely with clinical, operational, and corporate teams to design, develop, and support systems that meet organisational needs. A key aspect of the role involves analysing, translating, and presenting complex technical information in a clear and accessible way for non-technical stakeholders, supporting informed decision-making and effective service delivery.

Main duties of the job

To develop, manage and maintain the department's information and business intelligence Data Warehouse system, to enable production of key dataset outputs for reporting internally and externally.

To support the development and enhancement of reporting tools, using MSSQL services and other third party software.

Recommend improvements to streamline and enhance existing processes and systems within the data warehouse, promoting greater efficiency and effectiveness within production and use of information.

Person Specification

Education & Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
  • Extensive, advanced experience of Microsoft SQL Server in a complex organisation, which must include SSRS (Reporting Services) design/implementation and SSIS data conversion/transformation
  • Strong knowledge of providing reporting insights, preferably through a reporting tool such as Power BI
Desirable
  • Management / supervisory qualification or equivalent experience

Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Essential
  • Thorough understanding of relational databases especially MS-SQL Server including Database design and maintenance (including the use of indexes and stored procedures) and knowledge of SQL Server DML and DDL
  • Microsoft Access and Excel - Intermediate Level
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to lead and develop the team and provide guidance
  • Ability to analyse complex technical issues and translate them into workable system solutions
  • Ability to manage delivery of projects involving staff from own and other areas, ensuring that deadlines and quality standards are met
  • Analytical/methodical/innovative/self-motivated
  • Ability to liaise with, and present information to, staff at varying levels including senior management
