Director, Marketing Europe and Africa
Job Summary:
X is seeking a visionary Director of Marketing for Europe and Africa to spearhead B2B marketing strategies that accelerate our growth in one of the world's most dynamic and diverse regions. Based in London, UK, and reporting directly to the Global Head of Marketing, you'll lead a high-impact team of seasoned marketers to drive adoption of X's advertising products, foster deeper partnerships with large enterprises and agencies, and position X as the essential platform for brands to engage audiences authentically and at scale.
In this pivotal role, you'll own the regional marketing ecosystem, blending strategic foresight with hands-on execution to capitalize on X's transformation into an everything app—integrating real-time information, payments, video, and AI-driven experiences. As X continues to innovate with features like Grok AI, enhanced video capabilities, and expanded commerce tools, your leadership will be instrumental in educating marketers on how these advancements deliver unmatched ROI, relevance, and real-world impact for businesses.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute integrated regional and country-specific marketing strategies that align with X's global vision, driving advertiser acquisition, retention, and revenue growth.
- Lead sales enablement initiatives, crafting compelling sales narratives, presentations, videos, and localized content that empower our sales teams to win in competitive markets, addressing EMEA-specific pain points like cross-border data flows and Africa's multilingual campaigns.
- Oversee high-visibility events (virtual, hybrid, and in-person), trade advertising (paid media, owned social channels, and partnerships), and demand generation campaigns that build buzz and demonstrate X's unique value in real-time engagement, from Cannes Lions in Europe to GITEX in Dubai and AfricaCom in Cape Town.
- Partner closely with central teams on product marketing launches (e.g., new ad formats and AI tools), customer education programs, and global narrative localization to ensure seamless adaptation for regional nuances.
- Collaborate with cross-functional leaders in sales, partnerships, research, communications, policy, and legal to navigate regulatory landscapes.
- Foster a culture of innovation by promoting cross-market knowledge sharing, operational efficiency, and data-driven creativity—while managing budgets, timelines, and resources in a fast-paced environment.
To excel, you'll champion consistency across markets, amplify creative breakthroughs, and adapt swiftly to X's evolving ecosystem. This role is critical to X's future: as we expand our advertiser base amid shifting digital landscapes—like Europe's post-cookie era and Africa's digital leapfrogging—you'll help solidify X as the go-to platform for brands seeking authentic, measurable results in a fragmented media world.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of progressive marketing experience, with a strong emphasis on B2B advertising, digital platforms, and performance-driven campaigns in tech or media sectors.
- Proven leadership as a "leader of leaders," managing distributed teams and direct reports across multiple geographies, with a track record of building high-performing, inclusive cultures.
- Multinational expertise, including direct P&L or strategic ownership for diverse markets (EMEA/Africa experience highly preferred), navigating cultural, economic, and regulatory complexities such as GDPR in Europe, data localization in MENA, or mobile money ecosystems in Africa.
- Blend of strategic acumen (brand building, go-to-market planning) and operational excellence (budget oversight, agency management, analytics proficiency).
- Entrepreneurial mindset with agility to thrive in ambiguity—quickly pivoting priorities amid X's rapid product iterations and market shifts.
- Exceptional influencing and collaboration skills, with experience partnering with executive stakeholders and cross-functional teams.
- Data-savvy with a creative edge; proficient in metrics like ROI, CAC, and engagement analytics tools.
- Deep passion for X's mission and ecosystem—active user with insights into how real-time conversation drives business value.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, or related field; MBA or equivalent advanced degree preferred.
- Willingness to travel regionally (up to 30%) and fluency in English; additional languages (e.g., French, German, Arabic) a plus.
Preferred Skills
- Direct experience in social media or technology platform marketing, with a focus on user engagement and community building.
- Familiarity with global regulatory frameworks (e.g., content moderation, data privacy) impacting social media marketing.
- Established network of industry contacts in media, tech, or entertainment for strategic partnerships.
- Experience with innovative campaign formats, such as gamified challenges (e.g., X’s Bracket Challenge) or influencer-driven activations.
