Job Title: Transmission Design Engineer

Day Rate: £300-350/day (OUTSIDE IR35)

Location: Hybrid in Glasgow

Contract Length: 3 years

Transmission Design Engineer - Role & Responsibilities

  • Design BT/Openreach EAD / Ethernet Access Direct and carrier Ethernet circuits for utility substation environments.
  • Assess site feasibility using Openreach survey outputs, identifying access constraints, routing limitations, and delivery risks.
  • Produce implementation-ready HLD/LLD design packs, including circuit diagrams, BoM, and as-built documentation.
  • Evaluate EMI/EMC, Earth Potential Rise (EPR), and fibre vs copper suitability for high-voltage or sensitive sites.
  • Coordinate with Vodafone, SPEN, BT/Openreach, field engineers, and suppliers to ensure end-to-end design viability and delivery readiness.

Transmission Design Engineer - Required Experience

  • Proven experience designing BT/Openreach EAD, leased line, or carrier Ethernet access circuits.
  • Strong understanding of Openreach delivery lifecycle (survey, order validation, civils, provisioning, and site readiness).
  • Experience producing telecoms access designs (HLD/LLD, implementation packs, as-built documentation).
  • Knowledge of fibre access design and limitations of copper in electrically sensitive or substation environments.
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC considerations, EPR risks, and telecoms cabinet/rack requirements (e.g., EMC cabinets, ventilation, cable entry).
