Rate: £700-800/day (Inside IR35)

Contract: 6 months initial (multi-year scope)

X4 Technology are partnered with a global Oil & Gas organisation offering the opportunity for a contract Senior AI Engineer to design and deliver advanced AI and machine learning solutions for enterprise-scale industrial applications.

This role will focus on applying AI to reliability, corrosion, well and reservoir facility management, process engineering and advanced sensing technologies, delivering intelligent systems that drive operational performance and asset insight.

Responsibilities of the Contract Senior AI Engineer (Oil & Gas)

  • Design and deploy advanced AI models including deep learning, graph neural networks, generative AI and vector embeddings to create adaptive systems that continuously learn from operational data.
  • Build scalable AI platforms and pipelines to support enterprise-grade model training, deployment and lifecycle management.
  • Develop generative and retrieval-augmented AI systems leveraging LLMs, vector databases and modern AI tooling to unlock insights from complex technical datasets.
  • Apply computer vision and sensor-driven AI including object detection, sensor fusion and advanced analytics for real-world industrial use cases.
  • Lead AI architecture and innovation, shaping strategy, evaluating emerging technologies and guiding production deployment of AI solutions.

Requirements for the Senior AI Engineer

  • STEM degree with 5+ years delivering AI / ML solutions in industry.
  • Proven track record building and deploying production AI systems at scale.
  • Strong Python expertise with modern ML frameworks including PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-Learn, JAX, XGBoost, OpenCV and Transformers.
  • Experience developing LLM and generative AI solutions, including RAG architectures, LangChain, vector databases and cloud ML deployment.
  • Strong stakeholder communication skills
  • Nice to haves: Experience in industrial/energy environments, enterprise AI platforms (Azure ML, Foundry, Databricks) or agentic AI systems
