x1 days in office a week (open to more flexible options potentially)

A blended strategic & 'hands-on' opportunity to lead data architecture at an established and globally respected brand who are undergoing major digital transformation (x10 data engineers already in place, wider 50 person engineering group). This role sits at the heart of their data function, helping to design and evolve a modern, scalable data platform that will underpin key business decisions and digital products for years to come.

As Data Architect, youll be the technical authority for how data is structured, integrated, and governed, working across engineering, product, and business stakeholders to shape and deliver the long-term vision for enterprise-grade data architecture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement scalable database solutions, conceptual and logical data models, and metadata-driven pipelines
  • Own the full data lifecycle from initial design and ingestion to governance and performance optimisation
  • Lead architectural direction across the platform, helping the business move from legacy to future-state infrastructure
  • Ensure GDPR/data compliance, security, and high-quality documentation are baked into all data solutions
  • Work cross-functionally with delivery teams, stakeholders, and vendors to align on technical vision and execution
  • Influence and guide on best practices in data modelling, platform strategy, and pipeline design
  • Support analytics and digital product teams through robust architecture and integration patterns

Tech Environment & Tooling

  • Deep focus on Microsoft Azure and associated services: Azure Data Factory, DataBricks, CosmosDB, Azure SQL
  • Strong usage of SQL Server and modern data warehouse/lakehouse design (preferably Databricks-based)
  • Data modelling using Kimball and/or Data Vault methodology
  • Experienced with both structured and unstructured data environments
  • Experience with MDM, data lineage, data cataloguing, and enterprise metadata management
  • Familiar with Agile, SCRUM, and project frameworks like PRINCE2

Requirments

  • Proven experience as a Data Architect or Lead Data Engineer in enterprise or complex environments
  • Strong ability to communicate architectural principles to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Hands-on data modelling to at least 3NF, with a deep grasp of integration and warehousing design
  • Skilled in balancing business needs, technology constraints, and delivery timelines
  • Passionate about emerging tech and delivering real-world value through architectural excellence
