Senior Data Engineer
Senior Data Engineer
London (Hybrid, 3 days per week on-site)
A senior, hands-on role for a data engineer ready to be the technical owner on a high-profile project within a global client portfolio.
We're partnering with one of the world's largest marketing and media groups, working across the data that powers reporting and intelligence for some of the biggest brands on the planet. The remit spans regional and global clients, with the scale, variety and pace that only a network of this size brings.
This is a Senior Data Engineer role within a wider data function, where you'll be the lead engineer on a specific, pre-designated project: the technical owner of its architecture, pipelines and standards. It's a genuine blend of hands-on build and technical leadership, with real influence over how data is engineered and used across the network.
The Role
You'll be the key technical voice on the design of the data engineering product and architecture for your project, taking ownership from design through to delivery. You'll help shape the cloud infrastructure direction, drive best practice across pipelines and platforms, and partner with BI and client teams to build standardised solutions that scale across markets. There's a strong forward-looking element too, from exploring where AI fits into the engineering solutions to helping shape pitch content for new and existing clients.
What you'll be doing
- Owning the core design of the data engineering product and architecture on your project, and driving its implementation
- Acting as a key voice on cloud infrastructure, recommending where to innovate and how to raise the technical bar
- Leading the design, build and maintenance of ELT/ETL pipeline architecture
- Working with the BI team to create standardised data solutions that roll out across clients
- Supporting and developing the engineers around you, helping foster a high-engagement culture
- Exploring how AI can strengthen the data engineering solutions
- Helping run a community of data engineering specialists across the region, and contributing to client pitches and scoping
What we're looking for
Essential
- Years of commercial data engineering experience, ideally in a global or fast-paced environment
- Experience leading the engineering on projects or workstreams, with the ownership that comes with it
- Strong commercial experience with modern cloud data platforms (GCP preferred, though Azure or AWS will be considered)
- Years of commercial experience using Python and SQL
- Work designing data architecture, ETL/ELT and DevOps pipelines, including Docker and CI/CD
- dbt
- The ability to translate business needs into technical specifications and communicate them clearly to varied stakeholders
Nice to have
- Experience in the media, adtech or marketing space
- Confident in managing Git repositories and the GitFlow workflow, ideally through GitLab, with production deployments
- Exposure to AI within data engineering solutions
The Stack
Core
- Python and SQL
- A modern cloud data platform (GCP preferred; Azure or AWS considered)
Supporting
- Docker and CI/CD for DevOps pipelines
- dbt with advanced macros and templating
- Git and GitFlow, ideally via GitLab
