Contract Opportunity – VMware Kubernetes Platform Engineer
Start: April / May 2026
Duration: Initial 6 months (likely extension)
Location: Remote (UK) with occasional onsite meetings
Engagement: Via a leading global technology solutions provider supporting a major UK telecommunications and digital infrastructure organisation.

We are seeking an experienced VMware Kubernetes Platform Engineer to support the design, build, and operation of enterprise-scale Kubernetes platforms running on VMware. The role sits within a cloud and infrastructure engineering team and focuses on enabling secure, scalable container platforms for development teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, deploy, and maintain Kubernetes clusters on VMware platforms (e.g., TKG / VKS).
  • Manage Kubernetes resources including clusters, namespaces, deployments, services, ingress, ConfigMaps and secrets.
  • Implement platform capabilities such as networking, logging, monitoring, security and backup.
  • Work with application teams to onboard workloads and promote best practices for containerisation and deployment.
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for Kubernetes environments.
  • Automate infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible or similar).
  • Implement security controls including RBAC, network policies and image scanning.
  • Support operational reliability through monitoring, automation and incident response.
Essential Skills
  • Strong Kubernetes experience in production environments.
  • Experience with on-prem Kubernetes platforms (TKG / VKS preferred).
  • Solid understanding of containers and container runtimes.
  • Strong Linux administration skills.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, Azure DevOps).
  • Infrastructure as Code experience (Terraform, Ansible, etc.).
  • Experience with Helm or similar Kubernetes packaging tools.
  • Scripting skills (Python, Go or similar).
Desirable
  • Experience with VMware-based infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
  • Understanding of enterprise Kubernetes security and IAM.
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise platforms.
