Lead Engineer - Cloud & Application Platforms
Location: Manchester (Hybrid Working)

Salary: £90K DOE
A global leader in customer data and insights is looking for a Lead Engineer to help shape the future of cloud-native platforms and applications used by some of the world's most recognisable retail and consumer brands.
This is a senior, hands-on engineering role with a focus on modern cloud architectures and scalable applications. You'll lead the design and delivery of robust systems built primarily on the Microsoft technology stack and modern JavaScript frameworks, while mentoring engineers and shaping technical strategy across teams.
Key responsibilities
As Lead Engineer, you will:
- Own the technical design and delivery of cloud-based applications and services
- Lead development efforts using .NET and modern JavaScript frameworks such as React or Angular
- Guide architectural decisions across scalable, high-performance systems
- Implement and champion cloud-native practices within Azure, AWS, or GCP ecosystems
- Collaborate with engineering managers, architects, and product leads to align on priorities and technical roadmaps
- Mentor engineers and foster a strong culture of knowledge sharing, quality, and technical excellence
- Support platform reengineering to improve performance, resilience, and maintainability
- Identify and resolve technical dependencies across cross-functional teams
What they're looking for
We are seeking someone with:
- Deep experience in .NET (C#) development for enterprise-grade applications
- Proficiency in modern JavaScript frameworks, especially React or Angular
- Strong background in designing and delivering solutions on public cloud platforms (Azure preferred, AWS or GCP also considered)
- Experience working with microservices, APIs, and integration patterns at scale
- Strong understanding of CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps principles
- Proven ability to work in Agile environments and deliver results iteratively
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to problem-solving
Bonus skills
Experience in any of the following is a plus:
- Python, Scala, or data processing frameworks
- Event-driven or distributed system architectures
- Big data tools (e.g., Hadoop, HDFS, Airflow)
- Linux and containerisation
