Yolk Recruitment are supporting an established electronics manufacturing business with the recruitment of a Senior SMT Engineer.

This is a key technical role responsible for the performance, reliability and continuous improvement of SMT machinery and manufacturing processes, working closely with production and engineering teams to minimise downtime, improve machine utilisation and maintain high standards of quality.

As Senior SMT Engineer, you will take a lead role within the SMT engineering function, coordinating technical activity and providing hands-on engineering support to ensure SMT equipment is operating effectively and meeting production requirements.

You will be involved in technical problem-solving, fault-finding, continuous improvement, machinery development and the introduction of new systems and processes, helping the business improve machine reliability, quality and overall manufacturing performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate the technical activities of the SMT engineering department to support daily production requirements.
  • Provide technical engineering support for SMT machinery and automated PCB assembly equipment, resolving technical issues and minimising downtime.
  • Drive continuous improvement across SMT machinery, manufacturing processes and engineering systems.
  • Monitor departmental performance against agreed KPIs and support production, quality and efficiency targets.
  • Research and implement future technical developments to improve SMT manufacturing capability and machine performance.
  • Support the optimisation of SMT equipment to improve machine utilisation, reliability and overall performance.
  • Manage machine spares and ensure appropriate minimum stock levels are maintained.
  • Represent the SMT engineering function at technical meetings and contribute to technical reviews.
  • Work closely with Production, Quality and Engineering teams to identify and resolve technical issues.
  • Support the introduction and implementation of new equipment, systems and processes where required.
  • Ensure engineering activities comply with company procedures, quality standards and health and safety requirements.

This Is What You'll Need

  • Previous engineering experience within a manufacturing or automated production environment.
  • Experience working with SMT machinery, PCB assembly equipment or similar automated manufacturing equipment.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
  • Experience with electrical, electronic, mechanical or automated manufacturing equipment.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, machine reliability and reducing downtime.
  • Ability to work closely with Production and Engineering teams to deliver results.
  • Experience coordinating technical activity or supporting other engineers/technicians would be advantageous.
