Senior Business Intelligence Analyst
Job summary
The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst will work as part of the Business Intelligence team, providing advanced analytical, statistical and technical expertise to support clinical, operational and strategic decision-making across the Trust and wider health and care system.
The postholder will act as a senior analytical business partner, working closely with operational managers, clinicians and system partners to deliver actionable intelligence that supports patient pathways, clinical outcomes, operational performance, population health and health inequalities.
You will have strong analytical and technical skills, including SQL Server, Power BI and experience of using advanced analytical methods and tools such as Python and/or R would be an advantage. You will be experienced in working with large, complex datasets, data warehouses and linked health and care data to generate insight that supports service improvement and evidence-based decision-making.
The role requires excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, meaningful insight for a range of technical and non-technical audiences.
Experience of working with NHS, clinical, population health or public health datasets would be advantageous.
Main duties of the job
- Provide and share with the wider Digital team advanced technical and reporting/analysis skills.
- The ability to adopt a programming language for the use of advanced analytics in BI working practice.
- Design and execute the test scenarios and test SQL scripts.
- Lead specific Trust projects specifically associated with improving performance through the use of intelligent information across all service lines within the Trust.
- Investigate complex requirements; provide assistance and advice as required on all information issues.
- Responsible for tracking data, extracting, and analysing data produced and make recommendations for service improvements.
- Provide advice and technical support to the Business Intelligence Team
- Link external datasets and analyse own Organisation in the context of the place within the wider NHS or system.

- Lead on the development and maintenance of a data warehouse and liaise with other departments CSU's and CCG's ensuring that the data held responds to business needs and is of an appropriate quality.
- Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to explain and present reports to a wide-ranging audience.
- Lead specific Trust BI projects specifically associated with improving the use of intelligent information across all service lines within the Trust.
- Investigate complex information requirements; provide assistance and advice as required on all information issues.
- Responsible for tracking data, extracting, and analysing data produced and make recommendations for service improvements. Making judgements through interpretation of data and considering the options available.
- Develop/recommend required applications for performing the analysis of data.
- Provide and share with the wider ICT team advanced technical and reporting/analysis skill.
- Design and implement populational health management solutions.
Person Specification
Skills and experience
- Advanced Experience of using SQL and other database tools including select, join, group, stored procedures, views and sub queries
- Advanced Experience of using Business Intelligence technologies including PowerBI
- Ability to overcome barriers associated with conveying analytical/technical information to a non-technical audience
- Experience of working in a business intelligence or similar team for at least 3 years
- Understanding of the NHS and or Ambulance Services
