Lead Engineer

Job Title: Systems Engineering Lead (Embedded Systems & Software)
Location: North Bristol - 2 Days On-Site Per Week 
Salary: Up to £80,000 (depending on experience)

Job Overview: 

The Systems Engineering Lead will own the end-to-end systems engineering lifecycle. You will lead a small team of engineers, working hands-on yourself, ensuring that from initial concept, through development, validation, manufacturing and production hand-over, we deliver high-quality, robust systems that meet strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities: 

Lead the systems-engineering function: define system architecture, hardware & firmware/software integration

Mentor and manage a small multi-disciplinary engineering team, setting objectives, perform reviews & foster professional growth

Drive projects from concept through to manufacturing:

• Work with R&D, hardware, software, quality, operations to translate requirements into design.
• Oversee prototype builds, test plans, verification/validation, regulatory/compliance as applicable.
• Define manufacturing requirements, liaise with suppliers/manufacturers, ensure smooth production hand-over, pilot builds, full-scale production release.

Establish and maintain system engineering best practices: documentation (system requirement specs, interface specs, test procedures), configuration management, risk management, change control.

Strong communication skills: ability to articulate technical issues to both engineering and non-engineering stakeholders

Desirable Experience: 

Experience with IoT, edge computing, cloud integration or AI might be advantageous

Experience working in energy management or power distribution systems
