Role purpose

Design, code, and manage secure cloud-based network infrastructure in Azure, AWS, and other public clouds.

In this role, you will ensure scalable and reliable connectivity across multi-cloud and hybrid environments, enabling cloud services that underpin UK Government and enterprise operations. You will work closely with architects, developers, and security teams to align network designs with business and compliance needs. This is a highly technical role suitable for an expert engineer with a good grasp on connectivity, cloud technologies and infrastructure as a code practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy (IaC), and manage cloud networking solutions across Azure and AWS including, but not limited to, private hosted environment (VPC/Vnet), private connectivity (endpoint, VPN services, etc.) Physical/Virtual/WebApp Firewalls for access controls, and threat detection.
  • Automate provisioning and configuration using Terraform, Ansible, Azure CLI, and PowerShell. Contribute to CI/CD integration for infrastructure as code.
  • Support and evolve exiting topologies and connectivity solutions.
  • Escalation points for connectivity issues with cloud systems and resources.
  • Monitor and optimise performance across hybrid, cross-tenancy, and multi-cloud environments. Implement observability tooling.
  • Ensure compliance with ISO27001 standards, Zero Trust principles, and Well-Architected Frameworks.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and mentor junior engineers.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Strong knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, routing, and firewall principles. Hands-on experience with Fortinet (vFG), Zscaler Private Access (ZPA-Connectors), AWS and Azure networking services (VPC/VNets, Transit Gateway, App Gateway, Firewall & WAF, security-groups, Network Watcher, Load Balancers, etc.).
  • Familiarity with DevOps and CI/CD pipelines. Scripting and automation expertise with Terraform, AWS CLI, and Azure CLI. Comfortable to work with Github, AzureDevOps repos, pipelines, policies, etc.
  • Proven experience in Azure and AWS networking. Good understanding of Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Network Watcher, AWS CloudWatch, SSM, AWS Duty guard, AWS Config, etc.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Delivery focused with the ability to effectively prioritise tasks in a high-pressure environment to drive activities forward and meet demanding deadlines.
  • Current, Valid Security Clearance (SC).

Preferred skills and experience

  • MSP background or experience in high-paced IT environments.
  • Certifications (CCNA/CCNP/MCSA/AZ-700/900).
  • Experience with Firewalls (Fortinet/Juniper/Cisco/Palo/SonicWall).
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Network Engineer Associate (or equivalent).
  • Experience with Zscaler, Okta,
  • Familiar with Linux, Docker and Kubernetes (EKS/AKS).
  • Experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, or third-party monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of PowerShell, bash, python, any other language.
  • Exposure to implementation of AI in automation services.
