Data Architect
Data Architect | FinTech | AI-Driven Decisioning | Up to £115,000 DOE | Hybrid (Manchester)
We're working with a fast-growing FinTech that sits at the intersection of B2B finance and AI. They're building the next generation of their data platform, and they need a Data Architect to lay the foundations that will power it.
This is not a purely strategic role. They want someone who can think at an architectural level and get their hands dirty when it counts, making decisive calls, unblocking teams, and ensuring that data becomes a governed, reusable, and commercially valuable asset across the business.
The Role
You'll define how data is structured, accessed and leveraged across a complex mortgage decisioning ecosystem. Working closely with Product, Engineering and Data Science, you'll develop the canonical data models, pipelines and governance frameworks that enable rapid AI experimentation without compromising long-term scalability.
Key responsibilities include:
- Shaping the data architecture for AI-driven decisioning, balancing speed to market with enterprise-grade thinking
- Developing and evolving canonical data models across core mortgage entities (Applicant, Property, Loan, Broker, Decision)
- Standardising data from disparate sources including Azure SQL, SQL Server, Blob Storage and external APIs
- Ensuring data structures support ML feature engineering, explainability, auditability and regulatory compliance
- Partnering with Data Science to ensure data is fit for modelling, prediction and monitoring
- Driving documentation, lineage, metadata and governance adoption across teams
What They're Looking For
- Proven experience designing data architectures and data models in complex, regulated environments, financial services experience is a strong advantage
- Strong SQL skills and solid understanding of ETL/ELT, batch and streaming patterns
- Hands-on experience with Azure, AWS or GCP data platforms - data lakes, warehouses, orchestration
- Familiarity with modern data architecture patterns (lakehouse, medallion, warehouse)
- A pragmatic, outcome-focused mindset, someone who avoids over-engineering and moves quickly from ambiguity to clarity
- Strong communication skills, able to translate complex data concepts for both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Desirable: experience with ML-related data processes, feature stores and training pipelines
What's on Offer
- Up to £115,000 DOE
- Hybrid working (approximately three days per week in the office)
- 25 days holiday plus bank holidays, with purchase options and the ability to work from anywhere in the world for up to four weeks per year
