Full Stack Engineer

Full Stack Engineer (PHP, Go & React) | Up to £100k + Bonus | Hybrid

Our Software Engineering team has been engaged exclusively to build a brand-new product team for an innovative health and wellbeing tech startup creating a next-generation wellness platform. The product is being built from the ground up with a privacy-first architecture, designed to protect user data while delivering intelligent, personalised experiences.

This is an opportunity to join early, shape both the frontend and backend architecture, and play a critical role in building a product that genuinely aims to make a difference.

The Opportunity

• Build and own full-stack features across a consumer-facing platform.
• Work on a product where privacy and security are foundational, not afterthoughts.
• Develop scalable backend services using PHP and Go.
• Create modern, responsive user experiences using React.
• Collaborate closely with mobile (iOS & Android) teams on shared data models and API integrations.
• Influence application architecture, API design, frontend frameworks, and scalability decisions from day one.

What You'll Be Doing

• Designing and developing backend services in PHP and Go for secure data handling and business-critical functionality.
• Building intuitive, high-performance frontend applications using React.
• Writing and maintaining unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
• Contributing to shared API specifications (OpenAPI / YAML).
• Building privacy-first systems, including secure data synchronisation and user management capabilities.
• Developing notification, engagement, and user-facing platform features.
• Working alongside Kotlin Multiplatform, iOS, and Android engineers on shared schemas and integrations.
• Ensuring GDPR compliance and best practices in data protection and application security.
• Optimising applications for performance, scalability, accessibility, and reliability.
• Participating in architecture discussions and helping define engineering best practices.

What We're Looking For

• Strong commercial experience as a Full Stack Engineer or Software Engineer.
• Experience building production applications using PHP.
• Commercial experience with Go (Golang) or a strong desire to work with it.
• Strong frontend development experience with React.
• Solid understanding of API design and OpenAPI specifications.
• Experience working with relational databases, ideally PostgreSQL.
• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP, or similar).
• Understanding of secure application development and privacy-first engineering principles.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including mobile engineers.
• Strong preference for candidates with experience building consumer-facing products.

Nice to Have

• Experience with TypeScript.
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, or containerised environments.
• Exposure to event-driven architectures and messaging systems.
• Experience working in startup or scale-up environments.
• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern DevOps practices.
