Principal Software Engineer

Manchester City Centre (2 days onsite)

Up to £110,000 + 20% bonus + Car Allowance.

The Opportunity

This is a high-impact Principal role within a large-scale enterprise SaaS environment undergoing a significant platform transformation.

The business is re-architecting its core systems from the ground up — moving away from legacy constraints into a modern, cloud-native, event-driven platform designed for scale, resilience, and long-term growth.

You’ll play a key role in shaping that journey.

The Role

This is a hands-on technical leadership position. You’ll be expected to lead from the front — setting engineering standards, influencing architecture, and working closely with teams across the business.

You will:

• Lead the design and development of modern distributed systems
• Drive adoption of microservices and event-driven architecture
• Mentor and guide engineers across multiple teams
• Work closely with Architecture, Data, and Platform functions
• Influence technical direction and long-term engineering strategy
• Contribute directly to code where it matters

Technology

• .NET / C# (essential)
• Modern .NET (Core / .NET 8+)
• AWS (EKS, ECS, Lambda)
• Docker / Kubernetes
• Terraform (Infrastructure as Code)
• Event-driven architecture (SNS/SQS/EventBridge or similar)
• SQL and NoSQL data stores
• CI/CD (GitHub Actions or similar)

What They’re Looking For

• Strong hands-on background in .NET engineering
• Experience designing scalable, distributed systems
• Proven ability to operate at Principal or Staff level
• Comfortable influencing across engineering and leadership teams
• Experience working in modern cloud environments
• A pragmatic approach to solving complex technical problems
