Software Engineering Manager
Software Engineering Manager
Manchester (Hybrid – 2 Days Per Week)
£95,000 + Bonus + Excellent Benefits
Most Software Engineering Manager roles are really delivery management roles in disguise.
This isn't one of them.
We are partnering with a highly successful SaaS technology business undergoing a significant engineering transformation. They are investing heavily in modern product engineering practices and are looking for a Software Engineering Manager capable of raising standards, improving execution and helping build a high-performance engineering culture.
This role exists because the business wants to accelerate delivery without sacrificing engineering quality.
They are looking for someone who can create clarity, accountability and momentum within a team of talented software engineers.
What You'll Be Doing
You'll lead a team of approximately 10-12 Software Engineers working on a large-scale SaaS platform used by thousands of customers.
Your focus will be helping engineers do their best work.
This means:
- Driving engineering standards and best practices
- Improving delivery predictability and execution
- Coaching, mentoring and developing engineers
- Working closely with Product and Architecture teams
- Removing blockers and creating an environment where teams can perform
- Building a culture of ownership, accountability and continuous improvement
- Helping engineering teams balance speed, quality and technical excellence
This is not a role for someone who wants to spend their days in status meetings and spreadsheets.
The business wants a leader who understands modern software engineering and can command respect from engineers through credibility, judgement and leadership.
What We're Looking For
- Previous experience leading Software Engineers within a modern SaaS environment
- Strong understanding of software engineering principles and delivery practices
- Experience building high-performing engineering teams
- Proven ability to improve engineering culture, standards and ways of working
- Strong stakeholder management skills
- Experience working closely with Product, Architecture and Delivery functions
- Passion for coaching and developing engineers
Technical understanding is important.
You don't need to be coding every day, but you should be capable of having meaningful conversations around modern engineering practices, cloud-native development, architecture, quality engineering and software delivery.
Why Join?
The business has executive-level support for engineering improvement and genuine appetite for change.
You'll inherit a strong team and have the opportunity to shape how engineering operates moving forward.
If you're the type of leader who enjoys creating high-performing teams, improving delivery outcomes and building an engineering culture that people genuinely want to be part of, this is an opportunity worth exploring.
