Pay Rate: £402 per day all inc. (PAYE through Umbrella)

Role Description:

    We are seeking a highly skilled Platform & DevOps Engineer to engineer and support the delivery platform, deployment automation, and operational controls that underpin entitlement, authorization, and event-driven services. The successful candidate will play a critical role in embedding security, reliability, observability, and quality into the software delivery life cycle, enabling engineering teams to build, test, deploy, and operate applications through consistent and automated pathways.

      Key Responsibilities:

      • Design, build, and maintain robust GitLab CI/CD pipelines covering build, testing, security scanning, artifact promotion, and multi-environment deployments.
      • Develop and manage Helm charts and reusable deployment configurations for Java services, OPA, Envoy, and supporting platform components.
      • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot Docker images, Docker Compose environments, container networking, and runtime configurations.
      • Implement and enhance platform observability through metrics, dashboards, alerting, structured logging, and distributed tracing.
      • Integrate security and quality controls including SAST, container scanning, dependency scanning, code quality analysis, and vulnerability management.
      • Automate secure configuration management, secrets handling, certificate deployment, and compliance evidence generation.
      • Design deployment resilience strategies including rollback mechanisms, circuit breakers, high availability, and disaster recovery controls.
      • Support performance tuning, capacity planning, and operational optimization across policy engines, event-streaming platforms, and application services.
      • Collaborate with engineering, security, architecture, and operations teams to deliver secure, scalable, and resilient platform capabilities.
      • Promote DevOps best practices, automation-first principles, and continuous improvement across the engineering organization.

      Required Skills & Experience:

      • Strong experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) roles.
      • Proven expertise in GitLab CI/CD pipeline engineering, release automation, and artifact promotion strategies.
      • Hands-on experience with Docker, Helm, containerized platforms, Kubernetes, and/or OpenShift*.
      • Strong understanding of Java/Spring Boot applications and the ability to troubleshoot service deployments and runtime issues.
      • Practical experience with Apache Kafka, including operational monitoring and troubleshooting of event-driven systems.
      • Expertise in observability platforms such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, OpenTelemetry, Observe, or equivalent tooling.
      • Experience implementing structured logging, distributed tracing, W3C Trace Context, and application monitoring frameworks.
      • Strong knowledge of integrating security scanning, code quality controls, container security, and dependency management into CI/CD pipelines.
      • xperience supporting and managing distributed systems within enterprise production environments.
      • Familiarity with Test-Driven Development (TDD) principles and automated quality assurance practices.
      • Experience leveraging AI-assisted engineering tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or equivalent technologies while applying appropriate governance and validation.

      Preferred Skills:

      • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or equivalent).
      • Knowledge of Vault or enterprise-grade secrets management platforms.
      • Strong understanding of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, Service Level Indicators (SLIs), Service Level Objectives (SLOs), and operational resilience practices.
      • Experience supporting highly regulated environments within Banking, Financial Services, Insurance, or Public Sector organizations.
      • Familiarity with service mesh technologies, API gateways, policy enforcement platforms, and authorization frameworks.
      • Knowledge of cloud-native architecture and modern platform engineering practices.
