Contract Technical Architect

Job Title: Technical Architect

Location: Bristol or London (Hybrid; 2 days per week onsite)

Clearance: Active SC clearance

Contract Length: Initial 12 months

Day Rate: £735 p/d Inside IR35

We are partnering with a major government department in their search for an experienced Technical Architect to support the data transformation programme.

Role Overview:

As a Technical Architect, you will work within a multidisciplinary product team , guiding technology decisions, designing systems, and supporting delivery across GDS initiatives. You will ensure service quality , provide mentorship , and drive cross-government collaboration .

Key Skills & Experience:

• Experience working with data products , ideally with an interest in open data
• Familiarity with CKAN or similar data management platforms
• Awareness of recent AI developments and their impact on data services
• Deep expertise in Linux and cloud services (AWS preferred)
• Proficient in Python ; Ruby desirable
• Strong experience with infrastructure technologies : databases, web servers, CDNs, message queues, load balancers
• Skilled in Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)
• Experience with containers (Kubernetes, ECS) or serverless (AWS Lambda)
• Supporting large-scale production services
• Strong Git and CI/CD pipeline experience (GitHub Actions, AWS CodePipeline)
• Solid understanding of security principles
• Proven technical leadership experience : leading projects, guiding teams, and mentoring colleagues
