Interim Deputy Director / Senior Technical Lead

Role: Interim Deputy Director / Technical Lead Clearance: SC Cleared Location: Mostly remote with occasional client visits in London Day Rate: DOE £850 to £950 p/d Inside IR35 Duration: Initial 6 months

We are looking for a Senior Technical Lead to provide strategic direction and hands-on leadership across a major government IT transformation programme.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical leadership and act as the escalation point for complex IT decisions.
• Oversee a portfolio of work across engineering, platform strategy, and security enablement.
• Align and integrate workstreams across new and existing technical teams.
• Represent senior technical leadership in governance forums and cross-departmental discussions.
• Guide the next phase of platform development and operational maturity planning.

Key experience:

• Familiarity with central government, public sector or regulated environments.
• Background in software engineering, architecture, or enterprise infrastructure.
• Experience leading major tech programmes (CTO, Principal Engineer, Head of Architecture, etc.).
• Proven capability working across complex stakeholder landscapes.
• Strong grasp of DevSecOps, Agile delivery, and digital platform operations.
• Strategic understanding of enterprise IT, cyber security, and IT governance.
• Comfortable aligning people, process, and platforms to enable change at scale.
