About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Java Backend Developer with 5–7 years of expertise in Microservices architecture. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable backend systems to support critical business applications.
Job Title: Java Backend Developer (Microservices)
Location: Sheffield (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)
Type: Subcontract / FTC
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain Java-based microservices applications
- Build scalable, secure, and high-performance backend systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement microservices architecture
- Ensure application performance, responsiveness, and scalability through clean and efficient coding practices
- Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in microservices environments
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and best practices in Java and microservices
Roles & Responsibilities
- Design and implement robust microservices using best practices
- Integrate microservices with databases, REST APIs, and third-party services
- Work closely with Product Owners and stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
- Develop and maintain unit and integration tests to ensure high-quality software delivery
- Mentor junior developers and provide technical guidance
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives
- Collaborate with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation
