About the Company

We’re partnered with a high growth global fintech that’s building modern infrastructure to power payments and financial operations for businesses. They operate across multiple markets and are investing heavily in their London engineering hub as they scale their platform and teams.

About the Role

They’re now looking for an experienced Senior Engineering Manager to lead a Payments team responsible for critical systems underpinning transaction processing and financial operations. This is a highly technical leadership role combining delivery, people management, and technical direction within a fast-moving, product-led environment.

Responsibilities

Technical leadership

  • Own a defined engineering domain and shape the 0-6 month technical roadmap
  • Partner with senior engineers on architecture and long-term platform direction
  • Take accountability for system reliability, availability, and security
  • Ensure strong operational practices: documentation, support models, SLAs, and on-call structures

Delivery & execution

  • Lead sprint planning, prioritisation, and delivery oversight
  • Balance roadmap work with unplanned priorities and operational demands
  • Manage team capacity and ensure sustainable delivery pace
  • Maintain high quality standards while driving timely execution
  • Own incident management and resolution processes

Cross-functional collaboration

  • Act as the primary interface between Engineering and Product
  • Align technical delivery with business priorities and strategy
  • Communicate progress, risks, and blockers to stakeholders clearly and proactively

People leadership

  • Lead and stabilise teams across multiple seniority levels
  • Coach engineers and support career development and performance growth
  • Foster a culture of ownership, feedback, and psychological safety
  • Play an active role in hiring, onboarding, and retaining strong engineering talent

Process & performance

  • Ensure effective adoption of engineering processes and ways of working
  • Track and improve team metrics (delivery, quality, morale, staffing, velocity)
  • Manage limited budgets for tooling and team needs where required

Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Senior Engineering Manager (or similar leadership role)
  • Strong background working with software engineering teams in product environments
  • Experience in FinTech/Payments
  • Solid understanding of modern development practices, agile delivery, and engineering best practices
  • Confident communicator and stakeholder manager
  • Passion for technology, innovation, and solving complex operational problems
