About the Role

We are seeking a Security Control Centre Operator to join our growing Physical Security Operations team at the nLighten Milton Keynes Data Centre . This is a critical role within Physical Security Operations delivering remote physical security services to nLighten data centres across Europe. Operating in a 24/7/365 environment with rotating shifts, the operator ensures continuous monitoring of security systems, rapid response of security incidents, and professional support for on-site visitors. This position combines technical surveillance, alarm management, access control administration, and customer service duties to protect high-security data centre infrastructure, assets, and personnel.

Key Responsibilities

Monitoring & Incident Response

  • Monitor security systems (CCTV, intrusion detection, alarms, environmental sensors) across multiple sites.
  • Respond promptly to alarms and incidents, verify events, escalate as needed, and document all actions.

Access & Visitor Management

  • Administer remote access control: grant/deny permissions, issue temporary credentials, and audit logs.
  • Oversee visitor registration and compliance with site protocols.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records of keys, credentials, and incidents.
  • Generate reports on security events and system performance.
  • Ensure compliance with nLighten policies, ISO 27001, EN 50518, and GDPR standards.

System Maintenance Support

  • Identify faults, coordinate remote diagnostics or on-site repairs, and track resolutions.
  • Assist emergency response teams with real-time information during critical incidents.

What We’re Looking For

Experience & Technical Skills

  • 1–2 years in a security control room, GSOC, or alarm monitoring environment; data center experience is a plus.
  • Familiarity with CCTV platforms (Genetec, Milestone), access control systems (Stid, Lenel, Salto), and alarm monitoring tools.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to multitask under pressure.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a customer-focused approach.
  • Calm decision-making in high-stakes situations; collaborative mindset.
  • Proficient in MS Office and incident management tools.

Other Requirements

  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Clean criminal background check and eligibility for security clearance.
  • Physical capability for extended periods of monitor-based work.

Education & Languages

  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in security operations preferred (e.g., SIA license or European equivalent).
  • Fluent in English; additional European languages (German, French, Dutch, Spanish) are advantageous.
