AI Software Engineer
Job Title: Software Engineer Salary Range: £60,000 – £80,000 (Dependent on experience)
About Our Client
Our client is a well-backed, early-stage HealthTech startup spun out of leading academic and veterinary institutions. They are building a proactive care platform that leverages connected technology, biological data, and clinical insights to reinvent how companion animals are cared for. By combining hardware and advanced software, their mission is to empower pet parents and veterinary professionals with predictive insights.
The Role
Our client is looking for a smart, curious, and product-focused Software Engineer to join their core team. You will focus on complex application and business logic, playing a crucial role in building their foundational systems. As part of their highly collaborative culture, you will interact directly with veterinary specialists and clinical researchers, translating their insights into robust technical solutions.
They need a strategic partner who actively engages with product goals and contributes ideas, not a "ticket-taker."
The Tech Stack
- AWS (Back End)
- Python
- React Native
- TypeScript
What You Will Do
The First 6 Months: AI Ops & Automated Testing Currently, there is no testing infrastructure in place. Your immediate mandate will be to spearhead their automated testing strategy from a blank slate. You will build a mature unit testing system that covers both isolated and integrated platform components. Where standard frameworks fall short, you will need to design and build custom solutions.
Beyond 6 Months: Open-Ended Innovation Once the testing foundation is mature, your role will become highly open-ended. Your trajectory will be shaped by your personal technical strengths and the company’s evolving product needs as they scale.
What They Are Looking For
- AI Coding Experience (Compulsory): You must have hands-on experience experimenting with AI coding tools and workflows. You will be expected to critically discuss their practical pros, cons, and impact on development speed.
- Domain Background: Experience in healthcare, hardware, or R&D environments is strongly preferred. (Given the physical and clinical nature of the product, candidates with strictly finance/FinTech backgrounds are generally a poor fit).
- Mindset: Startup-minded, highly proactive, and deeply curious about solving complex, real-world problems.
- Education: A degree is preferred but absolutely not essential (their Head of Engineering doesn't have one!). Practical ability and a proven track record matter most.
